Big Screen Cinemas Caloundra: Generations of Providing Quality Entertainment

What used to be a small theatre right at the corner of Bulcock St and Knox Ave in Caloundra has now become a modern multiplex cinema, known as the Big Screen Cinemas Caloundra.

Set right in the heart of Caloundra, BigScreen cinemas had its humble yet rich beginnings through the efforts of a builder named Mr. H.M. Dean. Mr. Dean built it for the Page family sometime in the 1930s. The Page family were the notable proprietors of Page Furnishing in Pomona. The theatre acquired its first name as the Amusu Theatre (Amuse You). Historical archives do not point out the exact date of the establishment of the movie house but records disclose that it was changed to 'The Strand' in 1937.

Even then, The Strand was a prominent structure in Bulcock Street and is reputed to have provide only the best movie entertainment in the frontier.

'The Strand' theatre was demolished in February 1979 to be replaced by a new shopping complex constructed on in the same site. The new 'Strand', with a single screen cinema as its focal point was opened in 1980.

With rich history, quality entertainment, and affordable blockbuster movies, BigScreen Cinemas Caloundra is the only place to be for the ultimate cinema experience.

Big Screen Cinemas was born in the mid 1990's with a major redevelopment of the building creating the modern multiplex theatre.
